Wiki

If I could go back in time and give myself one piece of advice it would be to ditch paper notes and move to a wiki in high school. I can't even begin to estimate the amount of things I have learned that I have completely forgotten. Having a wiki doesn't prevent me from forgetting, or even from having to relearn things, but it does allow me to structure information in a way that it is easy for me to acquire. When I am working on a project, a well structured wiki can allow me to quickly orient myself. My old method was to keep project documentation with the individual project, but this caused all of my information to be siloed. If I was doing something that required me to refresh my knowledge of dynamics, then I would have to brows through notes or skim a textbook to find the information I needed. Now when I reference information, I simply link it in the wiki and the reference is linked permanently. Next time I need to follow that train of thought, I can click through a link tree to find the information I need instead of having to search for it manually.

This is an extension of my brain, mapping not only the information itself, but how I acquired it.
