Thermal Drone

About

This project is based on a Flightory Stallion. These are excellently designed models with high persistence times. This project required designing a custom nose section to hold a Infiray P2 Pro and supporting electronics. This provides a low resolution thermal overview of an area sufficient for identifying humans and vehicles. I 3D printed the body from LW-PLA.

Because it is printed, it is very light which helps with flight time. The disadvantage of a printed drone is that is more fragile than a foam drone. A Heewing T1 Ranger is used for practice flights because it provides very similar flight characteristics. The Heewing is about half scale and with a much more forgiving foam body. The main difference in flight control is that he Heewing uses a conventional tail and the Flightory uses a V-tail.
